We are lucky to be able to spend a few weeks each year at a cottage in Ontario lake county. Before my son was in school, we found late September to be the best time to go. Now, it is a summer vacation trip, and hot, humid weather is the norm. With no hydro ( electricity ) at the cottage, laundry involves a couple hour one way trip to the laundromat/propane fill station/ hunting & fishing store, using every last loonie in the jar. Not to mention hauling everything into & out of the boat & up the hill to the cottage upon our return. Needless to say, we don’t do that often. When the nights are cool, we light the wood stove, hang the bath towels & they dry by morning. The past two years have been so hot that we didn’t light the stove once. Our towels stayed damp & musty for the duration. Pretty gross. This summer, I found the Wise Owl towels. They fold down to the size of a slim paperback book, each one replacing two bath towels in the tote. Removing six towels from our load allowed me to take one less tote! That is a big deal when everything you bring needs to fit in a boat, get ferried across a lake, & be carried up a rocky hill to the cottage. The towels work great & dry in a few hours when they are hung after use, even in humid conditions. No more stinky, damp towels at the cottage! They do bleed color. An easy solution is to wash them with a load of darks a few times before use.For next summer’s trip to the cottage I am going to get a couple of the larger towels & use the accompanying large washcloths to replace the kitchen towels.
